The extremist ideology of Boko Haram started from the erroneous doctrine of an Islamic cleric before the very eyes of Muslim governors in northern Nigeria.
The Boko Haram insurgency worsened, because it was politicized and Nigerian military intelligence failed too.
Boko Haram terrorists are not invisible and every Muslim in the north knows where they are, because by word of mouth they have been communicating and recruiting more ignorant foot soldiers from their fellow Muslims..
My Nigerian Times has followed and tracked the insurgence of the Boko Haram terrorist group and made all the reports public knowledge, but the administration of the former President Goodluck Jonathan trivialized the crisis in political ignorance and naivety. The present horrors would have been prevented if the government even acted on the report of DCP Olusola E. Amore of the Nigerian Police Force published by Nigerian Times on Saturday, May 21, 2011. But his recommendations were ignored by the corrupt and incompetent government of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) that was more interested in sharing political appointments, oil blocks and million dollar contracts than ensuring the national security of the country.
The most read report on Boko Haram on a Nigerian news blogs Boko Haram Movement and Its Deadly Impact was also ignored by the government.
When Islamic extremists were attacking and beheading Igbos in the north and displaying them on the streets, other Muslims were watching them without condemning the terrorists, because they were not the target then and the government did not arrest these extremists and none of them was arraigned. That was the genesis of the crisis. It is too late to cry now.
A stitch in time saves nine.
